Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Peregrine program specific for either C/C++ or Java?

No, any Peregrine program version can be used for both C/C++ and Java.

  • The order form speaks of Nodes. What is a Node?

The license to use the Peregrine program refers to a number of Nodes. The number of Nodes is the number of computers the Peregrine program can be used on simultaneously.

  • Is there any communication between Nodes?

No, an instance of the Peregrine program running on one computer does not and can not communicate with an instance of the Peregrine program running on another computer.

  • Is it possible to run more than one instance of the Peregrine program on a computer?

No, only one instance of the Peregrine program can run on a computer. This is due to IPC resource restrictions, the Peregrine program is not able to create more than one shared memory area.

  • What does the term 'program peccability' exactly mean?

Program peccability is the probability p for a random test probe to encounter unexpected program behavior. Alternatively, 1 - p expresses program reliability (impeccability), the probability for a random test probe to not encounter unexpected program behavior.

  • Why was my VAT number not accepted by the ordering form?

VAT numbers are automatically checked against the VAT Information Exchange System (VIES) of the European Commission. VIES is a search engine querying national Chamber of Commerce databases to verify whether a VAT number is valid. VIES is still under development and together with its dependence on local, off-site databases means that it often does not function as expected. To circumvent this problem, the VIES check is performed manually for the time being without interrupting the quotation/ordering process.
